Dr. Sallie Hildebrandt, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in private practice in La Jolla, California. She received her B.A. from Duke University and Ph.D. from USIU. A licensed psychologist since July 1987, her practice includes treatment of adults of all ages, groups, families, and couples. She specializes in the treatment of depression, sexual and marital therapy, and evaluation of Bariatric surgery patients. Currently she is a consultant to Pacific Bariatric Surgical and Medical group in San Diego. In this capacity she evaluates patients prior to gastric by-pass surgery and lectures to Bariatric groups in the country.
Other specializations included cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal treatment of depression, anxiety, and stress disorders. For many years she led a number of groups, including couples groups, process groups, and sex therapy groups. In the past she was a co-investigator for numerous investigational drug protocols, including protocols for investigational anti-anxiety and anti-depressant medications with both adult and senior populations.
Dr. Hildebrandt has spoken extensively around the country since 1983. Talks include the Commencement Address at the Wright Institute, Berkeley, CA, 2003; numerous presentations on Prescriptive Authority at the California and American Psychological Association Conventions; and presentations on psychological aspects of Bariatric surgery as well as depression, stress, and sexual dysfunctions.
She has been active in the San Diego Psychological Association (SDPA), the California Psychological Association (CPA), and the American Psychological Association (APA). She has recently served as the President of SDPA, and she was the President of CPA, the largest state psychological association, in 2004. During that stint she was also chair of the Executive Director Search Committee and successfully hired a new E.D. for CPA. She was Governmental Affairs Chair 2001-2002, and again in 2009, and has extensive advocacy experience. She worked to found the new CPA Division V of Clinical Psychopharmacology in 2005 and established the President’s Task Force on Diversity in 2004. The CPA Board of Directors subsequently approved the task force’s proposed strategic plan for diversity. She is a member of the CPA-PAC and 2006 Chair of CPA Division I of Clinical and Professional Practice.
APA activities include participation in the Practice Directorate’s State Leadership Conference for a number of years, member of a panel presentation on states’ RxP Efforts at the 2005 Convention, and membership on the search committee for an editor of Clinicians Research Digest.
Awards include the APA Heiser for Advocacy, CPA Silver Psi, CPA Advocacy Award, and SDPA Fellow. She is a member of APA Divisions 31, 37, 42, 55, and AAP-PLAN.
Dr. Hildebrandt was delegation leader for a group of California Psychologists to the People’s Republic of China in November 2005. She was also the Mental Health delegation leader to South Africa in May 2009.
